In recent times, Kenyans have been hit with waves of strange happening but none has been extreme like the viral video of mourners dancing to Wamlambez hit song around a graveside.
In the video, a group of young and old people can be seen dancing to the Wamlambez song around a freshly done grave reviving what celebrating life really means. If not for the visible grave, one can easily think the little party is celebrating a birthday or other happy occasions.
There’s no sadness in this particular burial ceremony. The mourners do not spot any tear or remorse for losing a loved one. As a matter of fact, they look thrilled in their loss.
Kenyan communities traditionally mourn the death of their loved ones differently. There are some communities who wail and roll on the ground and there are some who hold disco matangas with a lace of a food affair to crown the sending away ceremony.
However, it has never occurred that rituals could be turned to a happy cheery dancing to new generation trashy music. It leaves very little to be desired.
I don’t know about you but if those little brains pull this on my burial day, I shall resurrect and show them what real dancing looks like.
