– Chelsea are set to host Man United in the fourth round of the EFL Cup
– United defeated Rochdale in a penalty shootout to book a slot in the next round
– This will be the second meeting between the two sides this season
Frank Lampard has said he is pleased with Chelsea drawing Man United in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Chelsea hammered Grimsby Town 7-1 at Stamford Bridge to earn a ticket to the next round of the tournament, with United struggling against Rochdale to qualify.
The Blues’ convincing win saw six different players get on the scoresheet, as Callum Hudson-Odoi marked his return from injury with a goal.
United, on the other hand endured a frustrating night against Rochdale, with the League One side nearly sneaking through to the next round of EFL Cup at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils will now have to contend with a tricky trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea for a chance to progress to the last eight.
Lampard has exuded his delight with the fixture, with the Englishman admitting it will be a big test for his players.
“It is a big draw obviously. It is two big teams. I am pleased we are at home and we will see. That’s all. I just watched the penalties. I’ll comment nearer the time,” Mirror UK quoted Lampard.
This will be the second meeting between the two sides, having squared off in their Premier League season opener at Old Trafford.
The Manchester outfit won 4-0 in that particular match, with Marcus Rashford netting a brace.
