Former Ugandan all-female band Blu3 member Jackie Chandiru has appealed for financial assistance from well-wishers.

In a video shared on social media, a frail-looking Jackie is seen alongside a friend, event’s organiser Balaam Barugaha.

“Whatever you have just give back to Jackie. She’s in great pain but God is healing her and the doctors are doing all they can,” said Barugaha in the video.

Meanwhile, Jackie, who has been battling drug and substance abuse remains mum throughout the video, occasionally unsuccessfully trying to crack a smile.

She’s still alive

Barugaha also dismissed rumours that the singer has passed on, saying that she requires financial assistance to cater for her medical and basic needs.

“She has undergone a couple of operations but she needs more medical attention and counselling. She needs food and other essentials.

“Please, she’s still alive. Support her wherever you are.”

According to Barugaha, Jackie needs between Sh63,000-Sh88,000 a month for doctor visits and counselling.

The event’s organiser also dissuaded members of the press from paying Jackie a visit saying that “the family don’t expect the press to visit this home so let’s give her privacy.”

Jackie burst into the limelight in 2004 with Blu 3 after winning the Coca Cola Popstars TV show alongside Lilian Mbabazi and Cinderella Sanyu.

Three years ago, the singer disappeared from the public sphere as she went into rehab for drug addiction. Early this year, she performed at the Biri Biri concert, saying she was out to reclaim her spot as one of Uganda’s top singers.

I March, the singer collapsed at the Makerere University Business School while speaking during an Anti-Drug Use Campaign.
