Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero found himself on the wrong side of the authority mounting legal troubles as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) move to recover Ksh68 million allegedly lost in illegal payments to a law firm during his tenure.
EACC gave a tight condition to Evans Kidero and his accomplices in the alleged lost money during his tenure to pay Ksh68 million within 14 days or face the possible action.
Part of a letter sent to Kidero and his accomplices on 12 September 2019 reads “We hereby demand against yourselves jointly and severally payment of the sum of Sh68 million in restitution, being Nairobi City County funds fraudulently paid and received.”
The EACC boss Twalib Mbarak stated in the letter sent to Dr. Kidero and his accomplices to take note that if they fail to render money within 14 days from the date they received the letter, EACC will institute recovery proceedings against them at their own risk cost and any other consequences without further reference to them.
the letter on Tuesday 12 September, Kidero moved to court on Wednesday 13 September
to challenge the allegations.
Dr. Kidero claims that the genesis of the allegations arose in 2011 within the defunct City Council of Nairobi who made decisions to pay the money to the alleged law farm before he became the Nairobi Governor.
Kidero affirms that all the payments made by the county government during his regime were simply outstanding legal fees due to the said law firm.
