The past few weeks have not been the best for many politicians who have tried to go against the government’s will. Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was one of the three senators whose houses were raided by police officers to arrest them.
There was a widespread narrative that the senators had been arrested to stop them from going to the Senate to vote on the revenue sharing bill that has continued to terrorize the country. He was arrested and later taken to a police station where the said charges were withdrawn later.
Malala has since then been on the headlines after revealing that he feared for his life claiming five state officers were on his tail. Speaking during a Senate siting yesterday, Malala told the Senate’s security committee and DCI boss George Kinoti that he knew the names and identity of the officers. The legislator was today speaking on Radio Citizen during the Jambo Kenya mjadala show where he revealed that he was left stunned by Raila’s statements that he had called police to arrest him. Malala called out the former Prime Minister for such accusations.
“Unawezaje kupigia Polisi simuaje akushike? Kama hatukutaka kupiga kura mbona tuliandika barua ya kupinga kupigiwa kura? Si tungeacha wapige wapitishe na mswada upite na zaidi Kitu ambacho kilinihuzunisha ni kuona kiongozi ambaye namheshimu kusema kwamba mimi na maseneta wengine ambao tulikamatwa tuliita polisi kuja kutukamata #Jambokenya.” Malala said
Asked to speak on rumors that he was in the process of shifting alliances to Ruto’s Camp after falling out with both Musalia Mudavadi and Raila Odinga, Malala denied the reports instead saying he respected every senior politician equally.
He however declined to respond to reports that he had used former cabinet secretary of sports Mr. Rashid Echesa to seek financial help from DP Ruto before he became a senator as heard in this video.
