– Walls of the two-storey school building collapsed at around 6.50am on Monday
– Several pupils were trapped inside the ill-fated building at the time of the incident
– Preliminary reports indicated at least seven pupils were confirmed dead and 64 others rushed to hospitals
A classroom has collapsed with pupils inside at Precious Talent Top School in Ngando, Dagoretti South along Ngong’ Road, Nairobi.
Reports reaching TUKO.co.ke on Monday, September 23, indicated the two-storey building’s walls came crumbling down at around 6.50am as the pupils were preparing to start their morning classes.
Official reports from Emergency Plus Medical Services (EPlus) indicated at least four pupils were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in critical condition following the tragic incident.
“Classroom with pupils inside collapses at a school along Ngong road, Nairobi. Four taken to Kenyatta National Hospital by EMS Kenya,” said EPlus which was one of the rescue teams that arrived at the scene and who could be seen removing books and bags from the rubble of the collapsed classroom made of iron sheets.
Distraught and visibly angry parents who had also received the sad news trooped to the institution to find out if their own children were safe and also get answers on what exactly transpired.
The school’s head Moses Wainaina while commenting on the matter indicated they had about 800 pupils at the private institution.
Wainaina blamed a sewer line that was reportedly being constructed nearby as the reason why the building weakened and collapsed.
As of Monday morning, at least seven pupils had been confirmed dead and 64 others taken to various hospitals according to the preliminary police reports.
