Ole Gunnar provides injury update on De Gea ahead of Liverpool tie

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Soskjaer says he ‘does not expect’ goalkeeper David De Gea to play in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.

The goalkeeper was injured while on international duty with Spain’s national team and was ruled out of the clash by teh Norwegian.

There had been reports that De Gea might have an outside chance of making the Liverpool squad, but the manager is adamant he will not risk him.

“Well I don’t expect him to play, but it wasn’t as bad as feared,” Ole told reporters in his pre-match press conference.

“When I saw the game, I thought that’s him out until the next international break, because we’ve had some long-term muscle injuries, but it’s not as bad as feared.”

United will, however, be boosted by Aaron Wan-Bissaka‘s return, having missed United last three matches due to illness.

“In defence, it’s part of the pitch we’ve really improved and I think that’s only going to be improving as well,” Ole told MUTV prior to his press conference.

“We’ll get Luke back soon, Aaron hopefully coming back, Axel [Tuanzebe] is growing, Harry [Maguire] is getting used to his team-mates and Victor [Lindelof] signed a new contract so we’ve got loads of good defenders.”

The club will also welcome back Anthony Martial to the side, having been out for weeks now with a thigh injury.

Ole Gunnar‘s charges host league leaders Liverpool, knowing another slip will further dent their season.
