Safaricom bags the 2019 Employer of the year award.

Safaricom has been named the 2019 Employer of the Year by the Federation of Kenya Employers’ (FKE). It is the third time the Federation of Kenya Employers’ (FKE) has hosted the awards.

This award had been won by British American Tobacco (BAT) for two years running. The previous year Safaricom had emerged the second-best company with Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) following closely.

Safaricom was recognised for its inclusiveness and diversity as well as its effective human resources and industrial relations practice. In the Corporate Performance Innovation and productivity and Workplace Environment categories, Safaricom got the First Runners up position.

Michael Joseph, Safaricom’s Chief Executive Officer stated that Safaricom has continuously been seeking to improve its work environment through value proposition and an inclusive culture.

He also added that Safaricom’s recognition would not have been possible without its customers and partners who have helped the company live out its purpose of transforming lives. Safaricom employee gender ratio is 50:50 and 2.1% of the employees consist of persons with disabilities.

Federation of Kenyan Employers Award was introduced in 2017 in order to recognise best practice in Corporate Governance, People Management and Labour Relations among employers in Kenya. It evaluates companies on certain criteria including Leadership and Governance, Innovation, Corporate Performance, Responsible Business Conduct, Human Resource Practices, Industrial relations, and so on.
