Former Olympic champion Wilfred Bungei has been left distressed after his vehicle being stolen from a hotel parking lot in Kapsabet, Nandi county.
The 2008 Beijing Olympics 800m champion and businessman is understood to have lost the car between Sunday night and Monday morning, September 23.
According to Nation, Bungei’s wife, Josephine, had parked the car at the hotel where she spent the night but found the vehicle missing on Monday morning.
Nandi County police boss Samson Ole Kine divulged to Nation Sport, Bungei revealed to authorities that the watchman who was manning the facility saw the car being driven out at night by some youths.
He, however, did not raise an alarm as he thought the would-be thieves were related to his boss.
“My wife has reported the theft at the Kapsabet police station and we have been assured by the police officers that they will do everything possible to recover the vehicle,” Nation quoted Bungei saying.
Cases of stolen vehicles have been on the rise in the north Rift, with crime busters last Friday recovering 13 suspected stolen cars from a home.
A suspect has since been arrested in connection to the car syndicate.
