– Ruto said Raila needed divine intervention to stop meddling in Jubilee Party affairs
– The DP claimed Raila should concentrate on building his ODM party to realise his political dreams
– Bitter differences between the two dates back to 2007/2008 General Election
Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday, September 21, caused quite some laughter in Embu county when he suggested Opposition leader Raila Odinga is in need of divine intervention.
Speaking in Kabaci village, Ruto said sarcastically asked religious leaders to consider praying for Raila so he may stop meddling in Jubilee Party affairs while in is pursuit for selfish political ambitions.
“It is ridiculous that vitandwili man (apparent reference to Raila) is teaching us how to manage our party affairs when his ODM house is in a crisis. I think Kenyans should seek divine intervention for Odinga so that he can stop behaving in a funny way,” he said sending residents into laughter.
The DP claimed Raila needed to focus on building his own Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in order to become president instead of working towards weakening the ruling party.
“He is trying to destroy Jubilee, thinking that by doing so he will ascend to power. I want to tell him that Jubilee is built on a strong foundation and his plan will fail,” he added.
Recently, he scoffed at the former premier’s ability to lead Kenya saying he was only good at creating vibrant opposition and not forming government.
“We unsuccessfully campaigned together for Raila in 2007. We were basically his handlers but things did not work out. There are people who do not know what it takes to form a government. It’s upon you voters to decide whether you want to continue staying in cold or form the next government,” he told Sabatia residents.
Ruto-Raila rivalry dates back to 2008 when the duo differed over post-election violence cases, Mau Forest evictions and grand coalition national government appointments.
